Due to the weather system predicted to move through the Volusia-Flagler Counties , including potential lightning and high winds, we have deemed it necessary to alter the course for today’s Challenge DAYTONA Middle Distance Triathlon, Duathlon, and Aquabike events.

We have been monitoring the weather conditions the past 48 hours. Although we were hopeful that the storm would disperse or be delayed, it now appears that conditions may not be safe to conduct the race as originally planned.

This is not a decision that we make lightly. We know that all of our athletes have put a great deal of time, energy, and emotion into preparing for race day. We sincerely wish that we could provide the Challenge DAYTONA race experience as originally planned. Our concern above all else is for athlete safety, and therefore we are confident that this difficult decision is also the correct and necessary one.

The course changes will implement the new Daytona Distance as follows:

Age Group Race:

Triathlon

  • Start Time: 7:00 a.m.
  • 800-meter modified swim
  • 2-lap 20-mile modified bike course
  • 13.2-mile original run course

Aquabike

  • Start Time: 7:00 a.m.
  • 800-meter modified swim
  • 2-lap 20-mile modified bike course

Duathlon

  • Start Time: 7:00 a.m.
  • 1-mile modified run
  • 2-lap 20-mile modified bike course
  • 13.2-mile original run course

Professional Race:

  • Start men: 12.45
  • Start women: 12.48
  • The pros will tackle a 2-lap, 1-mile swim, with a short land lap at the halfway point; a 15-lap, 37.5-mile bike on the speedwaytrack; and a 2-lap, 8.5-mile run: 2 loops on the original Middle Distance run course.
